Sentinel Hub Climate Change Custom Script Contest
Participate in the next special edition of the contest focused on climate change!
After a series of successful custom script contests focused on Earth observation data processing, Sentinel Hub is organizing the next contest together with its partners, the Copernicus EU Earth Observation programme, the European Space Agency, the Euro Data Cube (EDC) and the World Meteorological Organization. The goal of this special edition is to demonstrate the power of EO data in detecting the effects of climate change.
From March 15, 2022 until midnight on June 30, 2022, you can submit up to three different scripts. (Note: The deadline has been extended to September 11, 2022.) They must run within the EO Browser which provides data from Copernicus Sentinel and ESA missions with tools to visualize, analyze, and process this wealth of data. If you do not have the skills to create a script, you can also enter with a written story on “How to best communicate climate change via EO data.”
All submitted scripts will compete under a common category, regardless of which data source (Sentinels, Landsat, etc.) the scripts were used for. All submissions will be judged by experts on originality, scientific relevance, functionality and usefulness, and possible commercial potential. The authors of the best two scripts and the best two written stories will win attractive prizes, as will the author(s) of the best submission from a high school student or team.
In addition, the contest partner, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), will offer an internship to a participant of their choice. The internship offered will last six months and will take place in Geneva at WMO headquarters. A selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn more about WMO activities, particularly the WMO Space Programme.
Services such as EO Browser are made possible by an Open Data policy that allows anyone to use satellite data. Because of this policy, more and more fields are finding applications for satellite data and need support in developing solutions to the challenges of using the data for these applications. Custom scripts are an easy and fast way to add value to the data already available and to quickly test new algorithms.
